Nowadays it's very easy and convenient to book an express bus ticket online to travel from Singapore to Malaysia. The online bus ticketing platforms include 12Go, Busonlineticket, Catchthatbus and Easybook. These websites aggregate nearly all of the express bus companies in Singapore and Malaysia offering you a wide selection of timing, pick-up and drop-off locations to book a bus ticket to KL. However, the many options available make the decision to buy a bus ticket inordinately difficult.

In this article, we shall try to help you choose the best bus from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur by looking at some the the most important factors.

First, the price of the Singapore to Kuala Lumpur bus ticket can cost between SGD10 and more SGD60. Second, there are frequent departure timing from as early as 6.30am to midnight 11.59pm. Third, there are many pick-up points that spread across Singapore where you can board the bus. And finally, you've to decide where you want to alight in Kuala Lumpur so that you can get to your final destination quickly and easily.

Here's a list of pick-up points in Singapore:
  • Big Box
  • Boon Lay
  • Bugis MRT
  • City Plaza
  • Concorde Shopping Centre
  • Golden Mile Complex
  • Golden Mile Tower
  • Jurong East
  • Katong V Mall
  • Kitchener Complex
  • Kovan Hub 206
  • Lavender MRT
  • Little India
  • Novena Square
  • Our Tampines Hub
  • Park Royal Hotel (Kitchener)
  • Singapore Flyer
  • Star Vista
  • Tampines
  • The Plaza

Drop-off points in and near Kuala Lumpur:
  • 1 Utama Shopping Centre
  • Bangsar
  • Batu Caves
  • Berjaya Times Square
  • Bukit Bintang
  • Chinatown KL 5 Elements Hotel (besides Puduraya)
  • Federal Hotel
  • Furama Bukit Bintang Hotel KL
  • Imbi
  • KL Sentral
  • KLCC Twin Tower
  • Petronas Petrol Station (After Sungai Besi Toll)
  • Subang Parade
  • Sungai Besi Toll
  • Sunway Lagoon
  • Sunway Pyramid
  • Swiss Garden Hotel KL
  • TBS (Terminal Bersepadu Selatan)
  • Terminal KTM

Price vs Quality

We often read about poor service quality by express bus companies on travel forums. Common complaints are late arrival of bus, having to change bus in Johor Bahru, being abandoned at checkpoints and so on. Any of these things can happen regardless of the bus ticket price if we decide on the wrong bus operator and ruin our bus trip to KL.

The 5 Factors to Decide on the Best Coach to KL

Here's the five factors I used to consider when booking an express bus ticket from Singapore to Malaysia:
1. Pick-up location
2. Drop-off location
3. Bus departure timing
4. Bus ticket price
5. Quality of service

As you can see, these factors are not ranked in order of importance. Some people may consider timing to be more important than location while others rank quality above price.

What if none of these matter as long as I can get to Kuala Lumpur...

Sri Maju Group

If you've no preference for the express bus pick-up location in Singapore and drop-off point in Kuala Lumpur, and service quality is your only concern (at a reasonable bus ticket price) then  I would suggest that you take the express buses operated by the Sri Maju Group.

Sri Maju has been rated 5 stars by Easybook.com. It is the only bus operator to be awarded with 5 stars. As rule of thumb, any bus company with 4 stars and more should be in your shortlist.

The SIN-KUL one-way bus ticket price starts from SGD20.

There are 5 departure timing from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur: 7am, 9am, 12pm, 7pm and 11.30pm. The Sri Maju bus departs from Golden Mile Complex. There are 4 drop-off points in Kuala Lumpur: Sungai Besi Toll, Petronas Petrol Station (after Sungai Besi Toll), TBS (Terminal Bersepadu Selatan) and Swiss Garden Hotel KL.

Sri Maju bus ticket is not the cheapest and it is not the fastest among all the express buses. However, in my opinion, at SGD20 it is the best choice for an ordinary folk like me.

Aeroline and Transtar Solitaire

If money was no concern, then I would suggest that you check out Aeroline and Transtar luxury coach services; the seats are first class and far more comfy and spacious than those found on budget airlines.

Aeroline's one-way bus ticket to Kuala Lumpur costs SGD50 and Transtar Solitaire coach ticket costs from SGD53.

Aeroline coach departs from HarbourFront Centre and arrives at Corus Hotel KL in about 5 hours. Light meal is served onboard to reduce the total travel time.

As for Transtar Solitaire coach, the pick-up point is at Golden Mile Complex and the drop-off location is along Jalan Imbi, not far from Berjaya Times Square and Imbi Monorail Station.

NiCE Executive Coach

Nice coach has been my long-time favourite - it was the first express bus I took from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur more than 15 years ago. It is not as "luxurious" as before and the bus ticket price has become more affordable, SGD29.90. The bus journey has always been timely, boring and uneventful - there's really nothing to complaint.

WTS Travel

For those who live in the eastern or the western part of Singapore, I would suggest that you check out WTS Travel express bus services. WTS pick-up points are Tampines in east and Big Box (Jurong East) in the west.

Bus to KL
The one-way bus ticket price from Singapore to KL costs a little more - SGD40. The additional cost will be offset by the taxi money you saved. WTS coach drop-off points in Kuala Lumpur are Berjaya Times Square, Furama Bukit Bintang Hotel KL and Sunway Lagoon Resort & Spa.

You'll be the judge, Share your experience

So, the above are the 5 of the best bus companies I'll go to whenever I have to take a bus to KL.

You may wonder, "How about the other bus companies?"

Well, I really don't know because I have not travelled on all the other express buses.

If you've travelled with the best coach to Kuala Lumpur and believed it should be included in the list, please let me know (also tell us why you think they're the best!) in the comments below.

Booking a bus trip from Singapore to Malacca

Received an email from a visitor to the website, MyExpressBus.com , commenting of the difficulty in booking bus tickets from Singapore to Malacca via the phone or Internet. I can understand how frustrated she felt when the express bus companies in Singapore did not want to accept credit card booking via phone. These bus companies are still relying on the good old method of cash payment. So if you want to pre-book your tickets, you will have to make an additional trip personally to their ticketing office. Otherwise, go to the bus terminal and risk not getting a seat. As for online booking via the Internet, the company that has such service only ply the Singapore-KL and Singapore-Petaling Jaya route at the moment. Go check www.aeroline.com.sg for latest service route. Singapore may boast to have world class land transportation - but within the island. It is time for the Singapore Tourism Board to look in modernising our outbound bus services.

Express Bus from Penang to Kuala Lumpur

There are many express bus companies that operate the Sungai Nibong Bus Terminal, Penang to Kuala Lumpur route, however, not many express buses depart from Georgetown. If I were to take the express bus from Sungai Nibong, I would have to incur additional cost and time. Eventually, I found a bus travel company that picked up passengers at Komtar, located about 5-minute taxi ride from my hotel. The pick-up point is at street level and a short distance from Maybank Komtar. See the location map below. I booked the Penang to Kuala Lumpur bus ticket from New Asian Travel (aka Newsia Express) . The one-way bus ticket from Komtar to TBS costed MYR38. The express bus was a 27-seater KPB Signature Class. The seats were spacious and interior was clean and tidy because no food and drink were allowed onboard. After departing from Komtar, the bus made a stop at Sungei Nibong to pick up other passengers before proceeding to Kuala Lumpur (Terminal Bersepadu Selatan). The entire journe...
